About the new 96th House of Delegates District

- Due to redistricting, the 96th District has changed as of April 21, 2001. Figures below correspond with the new district lines (unless noted otherwise) and were provided by the Division of Legislative Services.

- The district population as of April 1, 2000 was 69,533. The population by locality within the 96th District is: York County - 42,651; James City County - 20,717; Newport News - 6,165.

- President George W. Bush carried the district in 2000 with 60% of the vote.

- Gov. Jim Gilmore carried the district in 1997 with 62% of the vote.


- In the previous 96th House District, Jo Ann Davis won in 1997 with 48.7% in a three-way race, defeating a long-time incumbent Democrat. Davis was re-elected in 1999 with 71.1%.
